Mission teams serve in Mexico, Italy, and the Dominican Republic
Over spring break, students and faculty served on mission trips in Mexico, Italy, and the Dominican Republic.
In Mexico, students led VBS for local children, played games, led dances, built friendships with high school students, and participated in a reading glasses ministry serving locals in the city of Tizimi.
“Being able to see kids my age who are in completely different situations still love the Lord and have a joy for life inspired me to grow and be more confident in my faith,” reflects senior Kailey Zavitz.
Students in Italy learned about and participated in evangelism ministry.
“Filled with tourists, there are still people in Italy who need to hear the Word of God,” explains Director of Diversity Dr. Jennifer Pinkett Smith, one of the leaders on the Italy team. “I grew in my belief that God is working in our young people and that they are willing to be used by God.”
As they communicated and evangelized across a language barrier, students grew in their reliance on God as they prayed, journaled, and shared what the Lord placed on their hearts.
Two teams traveled to the Dominican Republic to serve during spring break. An all-girls team partnered with a local American missionary family to build a playground and help with children’s ministry in a village. The Dominican Republic – Kids Alive team also helped with construction and engaged with local children through VBS and sports ministry.
“It was encouraging to see students grow in taking initiative and learning to adapt as they served on the trip,” smiles Creative Director Natalie Dettman, one of the leaders on the all-girls Dominican Republic trip.
