Accelerated Reader is a reading management tool used to monitor student reading comprehension and practice. Books that are part of the Accelerated Reader (AR) program may be founds using the AR Book Finder site. After selecting and reading an Accelerated Reader book, a student may take a quiz on that book on a library computer or in a classroom using an iPad. The AR reading practice quizzes consist of five to twenty multiple choice questions about the book. The computer will calculate the student's score which gives the student immediate information on his or her performance. Students receive support to reach individualized Accelerated Reader reading goals.
Parents may monitor their student's AR progress by using Accelerated Reader Home Connect. Login information may be obtained by contacting the librarians or classroom teachers.
It is expected that Wesleyan students read independently, as well as together with family members, outside school hours. A strong reading foundation is an essential component to a successful academic career. By fostering text-rich environments both at school and in homes, and by placing a high value on literacy, it is our hope that all our students will grow to love reading.
Our mission is to make available to members of the Wesleyan lower school community materials for educational and personal enrichment purposes and to provide instruction and guidance in the use and selection of these materials. The library is to be an integral part of the instructional program of the school, dedicated to equipping students with life-long learning skills and providing ideas and information that are fundamental to functioning in today's information and knowledge-based society.
