Wesleyan mission teams serve in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Paintsville, Kentucky
Middle and high school students and faculty members traveled to Paintsville, Kentucky and Chattanooga, Tennessee over spring break to serve on mission trips.
High school students partnered with Good Neighbors, Inc. in Kentucky to help those who work hard yet still live in poverty.
“My favorite part of the trip was getting to know the ministry workers at Good Neighbors. They personified Christ through their service, and they openly shared the Gospel with our team through their words and actions,” explains Brittany Coxhead ‘13, middle school English and Bible teacher.
Students on the trip to Kentucky worked on two construction sites. On one site, students worked on a home belonging to a family of four. They removed moldy wood, floors, ceilings, and walls so that a later group could install insulation and dry-wall to make the home livable. At the other construction site, students added an additional room to an existing home and built a roof for a woman and her daughter.
“I witnessed the students grow in many ways. Most significantly, they grew as servants. No matter the task, big or small, the students worked with enthusiasm, courage, and a joyful spirit,” smiles Coxhead.
Eighth grade students visiting Chattanooga served three widows through home repair, encouragement, and prayer. One team of students scrubbed, power-washed, scraped, and re-painted a home. Another group built a fence and stained a porch, and the third team built a ramp to improve accessibility to the house. Students also served at the food bank and enjoyed learning about Christ through devotionals and worship.
“I loved getting to know the widows we were serving. I learned what it means to serve and learned more about God, others, and myself,” explains Penelope Loetscher ‘28.
