College Advising hosts Atlanta Invitational Case Studies

During AICS, a college admission professional leads participants through a mock admissions committee meeting. As members of the committee, students and parents review the fictional applicants based on their academics, activities, and involvement, ultimately deciding whether each applicant should be admitted, denied, or waitlisted. At the conclusion of their committee meeting, all students gathered in Powell Theater to hear the final admission decision for each of the fictitious students. When the parents completed their sessions, they gathered in Austin Chapel for a panel led by 4 area college advisors. Topics discussed on this panel included addressing parent anxiety about the admission process, how to set family boundaries for expectations and communication, and the understanding that admission representatives have of individual high schools and their academic policies.

While the parents met in Austin, the 62 college admissions representatives moved over to Yancey Gymnasium to host a college fair. During this time, students were able to visit with representatives from schools such as Auburn University, Carnegie Mellon University, Davidson College, George Washington University, Northwestern University, Southern Methodist University, University of Pennsylvania, and Washington University in St. Louis.
