Zion Brown speaks about devotion to community at chapel
Zion Brown spoke about February’s Christian life theme, community, at middle and high school chapel on Thursday, Feb. 1.
Brown graduated from Berry College in 2021, and upon graduation he became the young adults resident at Perimeter Church. He is currently the Perimeter High School guys coordinator and is pursuing his Master of Divinity at Reformed Theological Seminary Atlanta.
He began chapel by reminding students of what it means to be devoted. In honor of Black History Month, he used civil rights leader John Lewis as an example of devotion. Brown described Lewis as a staple for what devotion to a cause bigger than oneself can look like.
Brown prompted students to consider Acts 2:42-47 and to reflect on the commandment to be devoted to community.
“The call of our lives is to be devoted to Jesus and others,” explains Brown. “You should be devoted to community because Jesus died so that we might be devoted to Him and each other.”
Brown encouraged students to do the following in order to pursue devotion to God and one another:
- Know and believe the apostles’ teachings.
- Do life together in community.
- Pray.
- Practice daily discipline.
