Middle and high school chorus students spread merriness through song
On Monday, Dec. 11, middle and high school students performed a Christmas concert. The concert featured carols from around the world – France, Germany, England, Czech Republic, Spain, and Trinidad.
The Fifth Grade Chorus performed “Music of Christmas Joy” by Czech Carol (words and arrangement by Earlene Rentz), “Sing We Now of Christmas” a French carol (arranged by Joyce Eilers), “The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy,” a traditional Trinidad carol arranged by Don Besig, and “Little Star” by Greg Gilpin. They closed with “Figgy Pudding!” and incorporated the traditional carol “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” (additional words and music by Ruth Morris Gray).
The Advanced Chorus and High School Chamber Singers performed “Carol of the Bells” by Wilhousky and Leontovich (arranged by Peter J. Wilhousky). The Advanced Chorus also performed “Riu, Riu, Chiu,” an anonymous carol arranged by Linda Spevacek and “Wenceslas Canon,” an old English melody arranged by Andy Beck. They also performed the classic “Mary, Did You Know?” by Mark Lowry and Buddy Greene (arranged by Victor C. Johnson) and “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen,” a traditional carol (arranged by Elizabeth Campbell).
Chamber Singers performed “O Tannenbaum” by Franck (arranged by Caracciolo), “What Child is This” arranged by Ruth Elaine Schram, and “Please Come Home for Christmas” by Brown and Redd (arranged by Althouse).
The Advanced Chorus and High School Chamber Singers closed with “You Make it Feel like Christmas” by Shelton, Tranter, Busbee, and Stefani (arranged by Mac Huff).
“During a busy Christmas season, it is nice to set aside time to celebrate the arrival of Jesus Christ, our Savior, through musical offering,” reflects Meg Foster, director of fine arts and middle school chorus director. “There is always such a festive and jubilant atmosphere at the Christmas concert, and I’m so proud of each student for using his or her gifts to glorify God during this joyous season!”
