Students reflect on remembrance at All School Chapel

On May 4, Wesleyan students gathered for All School Chapel to reflect on the Christian life theme for the month “remember.”
The service included student-led worship of the songs “You are Good,” “Reckless Love,” and “Sanctuary.” The lower school chorus also sang and danced to a song that proclaimed, “He’s not here! He’s alive!”

Students Bradley Powell ‘32, Chit-Chat Wright ‘24, Jamie Tremble ‘24, and Georgia Lutz ‘24 read scripture throughout chapel that reflected on the theme of remembrance and the importance of remembrance in the lives of Christians.

Jason Erb, lower school principal, stated that when we pause to remember, we see God’s faithfulness. He spoke of the many promises God made throughout scripture that were fulfilled through the life and death on the Cross of His son, Jesus Christ.

“God said the Messiah would open the eyes of the blind and preach the good news, and it came to pass,” stated Erb.

Jennifer Pinkett-Smith, director of diversity, stated that when we remember, we see God’s peace. She encouraged students to remember that as Christians, we can count it pure joy when we go through various trials, because we can trust that God is refining us. Ultimately, His good plans and purposes for our lives will prevail.

Joseph Koch, high school principal, stated that “When we remember, we find gratitude.”

“This gratitude glorifies God and shows the world that Jesus is the source of our joy and happiness.”

Greg Lisson, director of Christian life, gave the devotion which gave students four practical ways to practice remembrance:

1. Write things down to remember when God moves.

2. Spend time in community.
3. Don’t fill your brain with junk.
4. Spend time in rest, silence, and sleep.

“There are two important things to remember as Christians,” reflected Lisson. “Remember God’s provision and remember the Cross.”

Joseph Antonio, middle school principal, closed the service by stating that when we remember, we find strength in the Lord.

Thank you, Wolves, for your attention and your participation in the service. It was a blessing to remember all the Lord has done for us this school year, individually and as a school body.
