Wesleyan School welcomes new lower school faculty for the 2022-2023 school year

Wesleyan School is excited to welcome the following lower school faculty for the 2022-2023 school year. Read more about their backgrounds below: 
Megan Buckingham will serve as a first grade teacher and will coach varsity track and field. Megan is a former Wesleyan faculty fellow who taught second grade at Wesleyan during the 2020-21 school year. Megan most recently taught fourth grade at Heritage Preparatory School in Atlanta. She holds two degrees from the University of Georgia: a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and a Master of Education in Elementary Education with a Reading Endorsement. Megan attends Christ Covenant Church.  

Paige Carothers
will serve as a fourth grade teaching assistant. Paige spent the past two years raising her twin boys, Collier and Knox, at home. Prior to her time at home, Paige taught for three years in public school and three years at Greater Atlanta Christian School. Paige earned her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and her Master of Arts in Teaching from Sweet Briar College. She attends Passion City Church. 

Jacki Reid Freeman will serve as one of three curriculum and instruction coordinators in the lower school. Jacki is starting her third year at Wesleyan as the lower school librarian. Before coming to Wesleyan, Jacki worked at McGinnis Woods Country Day School for 19 years where she served as an assistant teacher, librarian, and school administrator. Jacki holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Paine College. She attends Antioch Baptist Church North.  

Leslie Hall
will serve as a long-term substitute in physical education. Leslie has over 25 years of experience teaching health and physical education at North Springs High School and Holcomb Bridge Middle School. Most recently, Leslie has been a substitute teacher and bus driver at Wesleyan. Leslie earned a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education from the University of Georgia. Leslie attends North Point Community Church. 

Jewelin Jackson
will be moving from first grade to second grade. Jewelin has taught first grade for the past three years at Wesleyan. Before coming to Wesleyan, Jewelin taught first and third grade at Nesbit Elementary in Gwinnett County, and she taught six years overseas at Dubai Preparatory Academy and at Saudi Aramco Expatriate School where she taught first and second grade. Jewelin holds a Master of Reading, Language, and Literacy from Georgia State University and Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from the University of Georgia. Jewelin attends Clairmont Baptist Church.  

Laura Jensen
will serve as one of three curriculum and instruction coordinators in the lower school. Laura is starting her 10th year at Wesleyan where she has taught pre-first and second grade. Before coming to Wesleyan, Laura taught Pre-K and second grade for six years in Austin, Texas, and Mobile, Alabama. Laura has a Bachelor of Arts in Recreation Management from the University of North Carolina and a Master of Arts and Teaching from Oglethorpe University. She attends Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church where her husband, Ryan, serves as the lead pastor.   

Kay Kim will be teaching first grade alongside Cathy Cailor. She will assist with lower school students in after care in the fall. In the winter, she will serve with Omicron and will assist with girls golf in the spring. Kay completed her student teaching in a hybrid first grade class in Harlem. She is currently working remotely as a research assistant at Columbia University’s Teachers College and works in person and remotely as a research assistant at Georgia Tech. Kay is from New York City and attended World Journalism Preparatory School in Flushing, New York. She is a graduate of Columbia University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Childhood Education. Kay attends Atlanta Promise Church in Suwanee. 

Marty McQuaig will be moving from middle and high school to serve as the lower school nurse and the health services department chair. Marty has been at Wesleyan for six years as the middle and high school nurse. Before coming to Wesleyan, Marty served for 13 years as the campus nurse at Providence Christian Academy and for nine years as a staff nurse at Emory University Hospital. Marty holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Auburn University. She attends Grace Snellville Church.    

Ahreum Park will be moving from second grade to fourth grade. Ahreum has taught second grade for the past three years at Wesleyan. Before coming to Wesleyan, Ahreum taught third grade for six years in Knoxville, Tennessee, and for one year in Gwinnett County. Ahreum holds a Master of Early Childhood Education from the University of Tennessee and a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from the University of Tennessee. Ahreum attends Karis Community Church.  

Meghan Smith
will serve as one of three curriculum and instruction coordinators in the lower school. Meghan is starting her second year at Wesleyan as a fourth grade teacher. Before coming to Wesleyan, Meghan taught various grade levels for four years in Beaufort County in South Carolina and taught fifth grade for three years in Fulton County, Georgia. Meghan holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Elementary Education from Roanoke College, a professional certificate in Gifted and Talented Education from the University of South Carolina, and a Master of Education Policy and Leadership from the University of Texas. She attends Passion City Church.
