Visual art students use talents to decorate Academic Resource Center

High school students involved in the National Art Honor Society (NAHS) recently presented three large canvases to Karyn Vickery, director of the Academic Resource Center (ARC), to use as wall decoration in the ARC. The visual art students aimed to create work that would celebrate learning differences and encourage a growth mindset, and Vickery was thrilled with the results.
“I am so thankful for the NAHS students who shared their gifts with us in ARC! Their creations will not only brighten up our space but also brighten the day of each person that visits ARC,” says Vickery.

Senior NAHS member Ella Grace Pickering shares, “I hope these fantastic paintings will give you a boost if you’re feeling down and help motivate you.”

Each canvas carries a unique message of encouragement:
  • “You’re doing great” is painted onto a textured red and orange canvas.
  • “You are my sunshine” completes a sky-like canvas.
  • A collection of silly phrases of reassurance, inspiration, and advice are puzzle-pieced together on a green and blue canvas.
Meagan Brooker, visual art teacher and faculty advisor for NAHS, explains, “NAHS exists to serve through art. This collaboration with the ARC reminded NAHS students of how the Lord calls us to steward our gifts for his glory, and we hope that ARC students will also desire to steward their gifts well.”

Next time you are visiting the ARC or Chapman Library in Wesley Hall, make sure to swing through the ARC and admire the encouraging artwork by NAHS students.
