Lower school adventures during October field trips

Over the last month, every lower school student adventured beyond the walls of Warren Hall to explore how their learning applies to the world. For most students, these recent field trips were their first field trips since March 2020, and their excitement was evident.
  • Kindergarten students and teachers visited the Art Barn in Canton and explored the farm with Famer Sue. Students learned about composting on a group tractor ride, and they practiced care-taking by petting and brushing goats, sheep, and donkeys. The hands-on learning continued as the kindergartners held baby chicks while learning about hens, roosters, and how eggs are hatched.
  • Pre-first grade students and teachers traveled to Zoo Atlanta to bring to life their recent study of Tanzania. All the animals were out, and students especially enjoyed seeing the lions, giraffes, zebras, meerkats, and chimpanzees because they were studying those animals in class!
  • First grade students and teachers explored Washington Farms.
  • Second grade students and teachers visited the Tellus Science Museum.
  • Third grade students and teachers adventured to Dunwoody Nature Center and took a deeper dive into the ecosystems of the Piedmont region of Georgia. Students learned about native and nonnative plants and trees and discussed native and invasive species. Students broke out into groups to study a specific tree. They were tasked with identifying after completing a series of questions about the characteristics of the tree and after taking some measurements.
  • Fourth grade students and teachers focused on communication and team building on their trip to Sojourn Adventures in Johns Creek. The theme verse was 1 Peter 2:9- “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.”
Field trips deepen learning and help make what students learn in the classroom “stick.” To learn more about academics in the lower school, please visit the lower school webpage.
