December Christian Life Word of the Month: Incarnation

The Christian Life theme for this year is The Word.  The goal of this theme is twofold.  First, it allows us to point our focus towards Jesus, who is called “the Word” in John chapter 1.  Second, it gives us the opportunity to look at a few big, important biblical words and unpack what they mean. Every month, the Christian Life team intentionally focuses on a new Biblical word that guides the weekly chapel discussion. For the month of December, that word is incarnation

In chapel on December 3, students had time to reflect on the meaning of incarnation. Incarnation refers to how Jesus become flesh, one of us, and dwelt among us. C.S. Lewis says, “The central miracle asserted by Christians is the INCARNATION. They say that God became Man. Every other miracle prepares for this, or exhibits this, or results from this.

For a few bible verses regarding incarnation, see below:

Colossians 1:15, 19 - The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation… For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him…

Hebrews 1:3 - The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.

Matthew 1:22-23 - Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.”

Philippians 2:5-8 - In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!
