Wesleyan Names Manley and Tanner as Belk Scholarship Nominees

September 24, 2018

Wesleyan is pleased to announce that Mary Ann Manley and Katie Tanner have been selected by a faculty committee as our joint nominees for this year’s Belk Scholars competition.

The Belk Scholars Program seeks to attract the most promising scholars to Davidson College, and eight Belk scholars are ultimately named in each entering class. Nominees must demonstrate academic excellence and purposeful engagement in the classroom, with student and civic organizations, on the athletic field, or in the arts. While academic achievement is paramount, Belk Scholars also exhibit intellectual curiosity and a commitment to both their local and global communities.

In addition to strong academics, Mary Ann Manley is a four-year member of the cross-country team and three-year member of the track team, is actively involved with Young Life, and is currently pursuing her Girl Scout Gold Award.

Beyond her academic accomplishments, Katie Tanner is a four-year member of both the varsity cross-country and lacrosse teams, a member of the math bowl team, and on the junior board for a local charity.

Congratulations to Mary Ann, Katie, and their families for this honor.
