Three Wesleyan High School Students Attended 2018 National Cyber Warrior Academy at UNG This Summer

September 14, 2018

Three HS Wesleyan students, Alexandra Murphy, Lauren Oakes and Chris O’Sullivan attended the 2018 National Cyber Warrior Academy at UNG this past summer.
"Our vision for the Cyber Warrior Academy is to be part of the solution to the nation's shortfall of skilled cybersecurity professionals," Dr. Bryson Payne, director of UNG's Center for Cyber Operations Education and professor of computer science in the Mike Cottrell College of Business said. "The competition among high school students to come here is fierce, and the number of applicants has grown over the three years the camp has existed. It shows us that young people are really inspired to direct their talents in this area." The National Cyber Warrior Academy (NCWA) is a GenCyber Summer Camp designed to inspire the next generation of cyber operations and cybersecurity professionals in the North Georgia region. The program will prepare students for military, federal service, and civilian cybersecurity career paths with an emphasis on personal, organizational, and national cybersecurity awareness and ethical cyber operations training. The course consisted of over 80 hours of instruction, including 40+ hours of hands-on lab instruction and red-team/blue-team competitions, and was taught by our own Department of Computer Science Ph.D. faculty members.
