“I am the Clinic Manager, APRN, at the Little Clinic in Anderson, Ohio,” says Lauren. “our clinic is a partner with Kroger Health that allows nurse practitioners to assess, diagnose, and treat patients for non-emergent issues, vaccinations, physicals, and more.”
As the pandemic worsened across the country, Lauren and her colleagues worked to test and advise patients on the best ways to manage the virus if they tested positive.
“On most days, about 80% of my patients are here for COVID testing,” said Lauren. “Many of the patients need education about treating their symptoms in hopes of preventing hospitalization, how long to quarantine, and what they can do to prevent further spread.”
Working in a pandemic comes with a mix of emotions for those on the front lines.
“There is something so humbling about helping people at their most vulnerable in their moments of joy, and in times of uncertainty or loss,” Lauren said. “I love my job, and yet at the same time my mother and father both fall under the high-risk category, so I constantly worry about their safety. I also worry about the risk of bringing COVID home to my family – which now includes our youngest son born in September of 2020.
“Despite my fears, my family supports my profession and is proud that I am doing my part in the medical field during the pandemic. We all take as much precaution as possible and follow the CDC recommendations in the hopes of saving lives. This takes a toll on all healthcare providers emotionally as well as physically, but I have been blessed with great faith and an amazing family who support me day in and day out.”
Lauren lives in northern Kentucky with her husband, Kyle, and their three sons Oliver (age 4), Joseph (age 2), and Landon (age 4-months).As the world fights the COVID-19 pandemic, Wesleyan graduates around the globe are working in various fields supporting this effort.
