Schiller Launches "Signs for the Frontlines"
This week, Wesleyan students K-12 collectively showed their support for frontline healthcare workers fighting the coronavirus pandemic. “Signs for the Frontlines,” a project created and fully executed by Wesleyan junior Carson Schiller, invited students in grades K-12 to submit artwork demonstrating their support for the heroes working day in and day out at Northside Hospital here in Atlanta.
“I got the idea because a good family friend is a nurse at Northside,” said Schiller. “Knowing how hard they are all working, I wanted to find a way to show them that their community really appreciates their hard work.”
Working alongside Ms. Stephenson in the high school and Mrs. Brooker and Mrs. Niemann in fine arts, Schiller worked to get the word out to students in all grade levels. When Wesleyan parent Gregg Stopher heard about the project, he knew he wanted to help. Stopher offered the services of his company to print the yard signs free of charge. Carson worked directly with leadership at Northside Hospital to coordinate the logistics of the project.
“It is amazing to see how our community embraced this project,” said Schiller. “We had 250 signs! I’m really proud of my fellow students of all ages and how Wesleyan has taken on this project.”
On Tuesday, May 5, a small team met at Northside Hospital to set up the signs along the roads employees take in and out of the parking decks at the hospital.
“Seeing everyone’s hard work come together this week was great but knowing the degree of encouragement we hope the healthcare workers feel driving by the signs each day is what really makes me smile,” said Schiller.
