Tengle Wang '24 excels on Chemistry Olympiad Local Exam

Tengle Wang ‘24 took the Chemistry Olympiad Local Exam on March 31 and received a score that qualified him to take the six-hour Chemistry Olympiad National Exam on April 22 at Emory University.
The exam covered topics beyond the AP chemistry curriculum and required Wang to be prepared to answer questions involving concepts like laboratory research techniques, nuclear chemistry, and organic synthesis.

“Tengle is rare because he seeks knowledge for the sake of understanding how concepts tie together, instead of just seeking a grade,” explains Isiah Hill, senior boys grade chair and high school science teacher.

According to the American Chemical Society website, approximately 16,000 students take the local exam and roughly 1,000 of them are chosen to move on and take the national exam. The top 20 performers will attend a 2-week study camp to undergo rigorous training and 4 of them will be chosen to represent the Unites States in the International Chemistry Olympiad.

Wang is awaiting his score in hopes that he will qualify to take the International Chemistry Olympiad Exam in July, which will be in Switzerland. We are cheering you on and are so proud of you, Tengle!
