Wesleyan celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Wesleyan is celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month throughout the month of May.
Leading up to this special month, Wesleyan welcomed Clement Lin to campus to speak at chapel. Lin serves with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship as the coordinator for Asian American ministry in the Southeast region and as a campus minister for the Asian American InterVarsity chapter at the University of Georgia. He is passionate about sharing the gospel with Asian American students and honoring their cultural identities.

In reference to Revelation 7:9-10 which speaks of a great multitude from every nation before the throne of Jesus, Lin shared that without diversity, God’s kingdom would be incomplete. He encouraged Wesleyan students to embrace the very things that make them unique, because as believers we are called to live as if the kingdom of God is here and now.

"I believe that as I embrace my own ethnicity, I have something to offer other people to help their understanding of who God is and what His kingdom looks like,” shared Lin.

Lin shared that during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, our goal should be to better see and honor these people.

“When we do as Jesus does and see people and the complexities of their stories with loving kindness, we see what God’s kingdom looks like – abundance, love, and restoration,” reflected Lin.

Lower school students also joined in on the celebration by creating beautiful bulletin boards that teach about Asian American and Pacific Islander culture. Fourth grade students will also be sharing about important contributions made by people in the Asian American and Pacific Islander community during morning announcements.

Thank you, Wolves, for being a part of this special month!
