Wolf Jr. Players enthrall audience with their performance of "The Sound of Music"

The Wesleyan Wolf Jr. Players performed “The Sound of Music” on Wednesday, April 26 through Saturday, April 29.
The inspirational story is based on the memoir of Maria Augusta von Trapp. The story centers around a woman who takes a position of governess to Captain Georg von Trapp and brings joy and music into the household.

“It has been a joy to see the students explore and develop their characters,” reflects Jenn Jordan, lower and middle school theatre director. “They have grown in their attention to detail and in their understanding of the contributions each of their characters makes to the story.”

The play is set in 1938 Austria at the time of the Anschluss as the von Trapp family is forced to make difficult moral decisions on the brink of World War II. As students prepared for the production, Jordan and Meg Foster, director of fine arts, worked closely with administration, the director of diversity, and the social sciences department to ensure students received an appropriate education of the difficult historical material present in the play. “’The Sound of Music’ is an incredibly epic piece, and it’s deeply woven into the fabric of our culture,” says Jordan. “There’s a lot of pressure in that for performers of any age, but it’s nothing short of a mammoth undertaking for middle school students. This cast and crew have worked hard to create a performance that is both true to the material and uniquely their own.”

Jordan recalls that the central theme of the show is God’s provision and plan for our lives. Her favorite part about directing the show was “to see students receive this message and use their God-given talents to share that essential truth.”

Way to go, Wolf Jr. Players, on a fabulous production, and thank you to everyone who attended the show.
