Class of 2023 leads Senior Chapel

The Class of 2023 celebrated their last high school chapel service at senior chapel on Friday, April 28 in Austin Chapel.
The service opened with an extremely enthusiastic recitation of Psalm 24, where students finished by loudly proclaiming that the Lord of hosts is the king of glory.

Seniors jumped and danced to some of their favorite chapel songs, like “My Lighthouse” and “Marvelous Light,” one last time.

Throughout the service, multiple seniors reflected on their time at Wesleyan and proclaimed scripture over their classmates from the stage.

Seniors Ireland Riley and Grayson Balloon each shared messages about the important lessons they had learned during their time at Wesleyan.

Riley shared about a habit she had cultivated over the years of asking where she had seen God that day. During her speech, she altered the question a bit to instead answer where she had seen God at Wesleyan over her 12 years at the school.

“The two main places I saw God were in my teachers and friends,” Riley explained.

She told her classmates about teachers that had become mentors, showing her how to walk closely to Jesus and reflect His attributes. She also reflected on the friendships that were cultivated during her time at Wesleyan, and she thanked these friends for their consistency and kindness.

Balloon encouraged his peers to remember that even if their future doesn’t look the way they thought it might or if they face unforeseen challenges, they can lean on the truths they learned at Wesleyan to persevere.

At the end of chapel, students carried on the tradition of running out of Austin Chapel onto the quad where they hugged one another and enjoyed one last major memory together.

Thank you, seniors, for a beautiful last chapel. We are so proud of you, and we are so excited for the bright futures that are ahead of you.
