Wesleyan's ARC equips middle school students to finish strong

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) presented to middle school students about how to finish the school year strong by equipping them with skills and tactics needed to thrive academically as the school year comes to a close.
Karyn Vickery, director of academic support, explained that students have many resources to consider as they finish out the school year. Those resources include:
  • Their teachers.
  • Their families.
  • And themselves.
Kim Youmans, learning specialist, prompted students to maximize energy and resources from their teachers by attending office hours, engaging in class, and communicating well.

“These teachers know you and want you to succeed,” explained Youmans. “Be sure to communicate with them, and take ownership of what you do here as a Wesleyan student. Teachers love to hear from you, because it tells them that you care.”

Students were also encouraged to ask their families for support. Parents and siblings can help with managing their schedule and parts of studying.

Lastly, students were taught about the importance of taking care of themselves. Students were prompted to take care of themselves physically by hydrating, eating nutritious foods, and sleeping. Students can also avoid stress by using their planners.

“Don’t forget to also take some time to pray, and rest your brain,” smiled Patti Hallen, learning specialist.

Thank you to the ARC for encouraging our students to finish strong and to uphold the “Wesleyan way” as the school year comes to a close.
