Wesleyan celebrates Lower School Fine Arts Day

On Friday, April 21, lower school students celebrated creativity, courage, and environmentalism during the annual Lower School Fine Arts Day.
The morning began with a talent show hosted by Michael Mann, lower school STEM teacher. The show featured vocal performances, dance and tumbling routines, piano and guitar solos and duets, skits, and comedy routines.

Following the talent show, students traveled to different stations and created art using discarded materials like water bottles and egg cartons. Elizabeth Ables, lower school art teacher, prepared and organized all of the crafts.

“We learned that reviving these discarded materials is similar to how God revives our lives, giving us new life in Christ that is far more beautiful than our original selves,” says Ables.

Students learned about and were inspired by the contemporary artist, Tyree Guyton, and his art created from discarded materials. Students also learned about Dale Chihuly, creator of abstract glass sculptures.

“Fine Arts Day expands on the classroom experience and celebrates creative expression,” reflects Ables. “We celebrate the talents of our students and learn about new artists, cultures, or means of expression.”

Thank you, lower school students, for sharing your many gifts and talents and reminding us of how Jesus is the ultimate and true artist.
