Academic Resource Center welcomes Dr. Saline for parent book study

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) invited parents to campus to attend three sessions of a discussion-driven book study based on Dr. Sharon Saline’s What Your ADHD Child Wishes You Knew: Working Together to Empower Kids for Success in School and Life. During the final session of the book study series, Saline herself virtually tuned into the discussion to answer questions and provide further insight into her book and raising children with ADHD.
Wesleyan’s desire and the mission of the ARC is to assist students with learning differences in becoming independent learners while successfully meeting the demands of Wesleyan’s rigorous academic standards. Additionally, the ARC hopes to give parents a community within a community to come alongside them and support them.

“I found the book to be incredibly relevant and packed with practical strategies for parents to support their child at school and home. The book aligns with our desire to equip our parents to support their children with empathy and practical strategies,” reflects Karyn Vickery, director of academic support.

We were created to be in community and support one another, and the discussion-based format of this study allowed parents to benefit from the encouragement and collective knowledge of the group.

“I don’t have any close friends who have a child with learning differences,” shared one parent who attended the study. “It was so helpful to hear other parents share stories that I can identify with to help me know I am not alone.”

“It is my hope that each parent left with hope,” says Vickery.

Thank you to every parent who attended the book study. Your support and compassion strengthen the bond of the Wesleyan community.
