JV Baseball Round-Up

On Monday, March 6, the Wesleyan JV baseball team split a doubleheader at home with Decatur.
In the first game, starting pitcher Carter Hayes went the distance, allowing only 1 run, but Decatur made that hold up for a 1-0 victory, as the Wolves offense just couldn't get going. (In addition to a solid start on the mound, Hayes managed the team's only two hits.) Noah Sanders had a standout defensive game behind the plate, cutting down both stolen base attempts by Bulldog runners.
In the second contest, William Wright threw a complete game shutout, as the Wolves bounced back for a 5-0 victory. Ryley Webb and Hayes had back-to-back extra base hits to lead off the 3rd inning, and Coleman Eldridge led the team with two RBI's. Billy Gingrey, Connor Roush, and Will Jamieson all singled as part of a balanced offensive attack.
The team is now 6-2 and faces Fellowship Christian on the road for their next matchup.

On Wednesday, the JV baseball team improved to 5-1 on the season with an 11-6 victory at home over Lovett's 9th grade team. Connor Roush and Brice Gillis both homered for the Wolves, while Carter Hayes added two hits and two runs scored. Noah Beckman earned the win with three innings pitched, allowing only one run and striking out six Lovett hitters. Coleman Eldridge threw 1.1 scoreless innings in relief, and Brendan Wright had a standout game defensively at second base, turning a double play in the 2nd inning and making the highlight reel with a charging, one-handed assist to get a key out in the 7th.

On Thursday, the JV baseball team swept a double header at Centennial to move to 3-0 on the season.
In the first game, William Wright got the start on the mound and threw three quality innings, allowing only three runs on three hits. Thomas Pressman earned the win, throwing two scoreless innings in relief, with four strikeouts. Connor Roush led a balanced attack with two hits, and Will Jamieson contributed two RBI's. The team also played excellent defense, notably Coleman Eldridge in center field. Final score: Wesleyan 7, Centennial 3.
In the nightcap, the Wolves jumped ahead early and never looked back, coasting to an 11-3 victory. Ryley Webb led the team with two hits and four stolen bases, while Brett Honeycutt and Noah Beckman each had two RBI's. Starting pitcher Will Jamieson earned the win, allowing no earned runs in three innings, while Coleman Eldridge closed out the game with two innings in relief, allowing only one run. The two pitchers combined to record eight strikeouts.
