Marching Wolves excel in recent competition
The Wesleyan Marching Wolves earned impressive recognition at the Branch Classic marching band competition on Oct. 22. Their “Blue Dot” routine earned seventh place out of the 22 teams competing, and the color guard earned first place out of the seven teams in the gold division (top division).
Despite meeting the criteria for a less competitive division, the Marching Wolves elected to compete against schools with much larger bands of more experienced performers.
“Wesleyan truly made a statement,” said Jeff Foster, band director. “No one questioned why we were performing in the highest division.”
The Marching Wolves placed as follows:
- Overall Band – 7th overall and 5th out of 7 groups in the gold division.
- Color Guard – 2nd overall and 1st out of 7 groups in the gold division.
- Percussion – 6th overall and 5th out of 7 groups in the gold division.
The sixty-person Marching Wolves feature 23 members that are brand new to marching band, and 19 of the 60 Marching Wolves are middle school students. At the Branch Classic, the Marching Wolves were the only band with middle school students.
“This group of students deserves a tremendous amount of credit for their herculean performance on Saturday!” exclaimed Foster.
The Marching Wolves will compete on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Jacksonville State University.
