James Ramsey ‘08 inducted into FSU Athletics Hall of Fame

James Ramsey ‘08 was recently inducted in the Florida State University (FSU) Athletics Hall of Fame.
After graduating from Wesleyan, Ramsey quickly became one of the top outfielders in Seminole baseball history. Over his four years at FSU, Ramsey was a two-time All-American and helped lead FSU to two College World Series appearances. As a senior in 2012, Ramsey was the ACC Player of the Year and a consensus first-team All-American after hitting .378 with 88 hits, 32 extra-base hits, 58 RBI, 63 walks, and just 42 strikeouts.

An all-around student-athlete, Ramsey was also a 2012 Academic All-American, the 2011 and 2012 ACC Student-Athlete of the Year, and three-time winner of the Golden Torch, an award given to the FSU athlete with the highest GPA on their respective team.

“Being inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame is truly a dream come true,” shared Ramsey. “It is just as much a reflection of the coaches and teammates I was surrounded by as it is my own achievements.”

A 2014 inductee into the Wesleyan Athletics Circle of Honor, Ramsey ranks in the top 10 in career hits (123), doubles (25), triples (4), home runs (24), and runs (108) for Wesleyan baseball. Under Coach Michael Shaheen, Ramsey led the Wolves to their first baseball state championship in 2008.

Ramsey credits Wesleyan with helping him transition smoothly to college.

“Wesleyan taught me too many life lessons to name, but the one thing I would mention is it prepared me spiritually to go into a college environment and thrive right away. To know who I was in Christ, even though I was not fully spiritually mature, was a huge factor that transferred into every area of life in college,” reflected Ramsey.

In 2012, Ramsey was a first-round MLB draft pick, and he played seven seasons with the minor league affiliates of the St. Louis Cardinals, Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Dodgers, Seattle Mariners, and Minnesota Twins.

In 2018, Ramsey joined the baseball coaching staff at Georgia Tech, and he currently serves as the team’s associate head coach and hitting and recruiting coordinator.

Congratulations, James!
