Varsity Volleyball Round-Up

10/22/22
The Wolves went on the road and defeated Lafayette 25-16, 19-25, 26-24, 25-22 in four sets to earn a berth in the Elite 8.  On they day, Avery Daum had 12 kills, Lauren Van Wie has 15 digs, and Sophie Shaffer has 4 aces.  The Wolves travel to Morgan County on Tuesday to play for a birth in the state semi-finals.



10/18/22
Throwing it back to the early days of Wesleyan, Volleyball played their First Round match in Marchman Gymnasium in front of a raucous crowd against Hart County this evening.  The girls cruised to a 3-0 victory, with the only real challenge coming in the third and clinching game.  Service went back and forth as the score stayed tied into the twenties.  At 24-24, the Wolves killed their 25th and then Avery Daum sealed it 26-24 to advance to Round 2.  The final scores were 25-17, 25-14, 26-24.  Stat leaders were Avery Daum with 12 kills and 4 aces, Nadia Desbordes with 9 kills and 3 blocks, Morgan Perry with 8 kills and 3 blocks, and Lauren Van Wie with 15 digs.  The Wolves hit the road on Saturday to play Lafayette at 2pm!

Our Varsity Wolves finished the regular season with a second place finish in the 7AAA region tournament!  In the final day of regular-season play, the Wolves went 1-1 against White County pushing their regular-season record to 28-10 and 13-2 in the region.  Statistically, Sara Marie Miller had 7 aces and 17 digs, Morgan Perry had 5 kills, and Mary-John Reinhard dug 7 balls.

Playoff Volleyball will open on Tuesday in Yancey Gym with opponent and time to be determined.

The Wolves cruised to victory in the first round of the Region Tournament at Yancey Gym, defeating Lumpkin County 25-7 and 25-15.  In the match, Sara Marie Miller had 21 assists and 4 aces, Avery Daum had 13 kills, and Lauren Van Wie had 10 digs.

10/4/22
Wesleyan celebrated senior night tonight with wins over Pickens 25-7, 25-3 and Dawson County 25-10 and 25-17 to secure the top seed in the region tournament.  Lauren Van Wie had 32 digs and 6 aces, Avery Daum had 18 kills and 15 digs, Parker Tidwell and Morgan Perry had 6 kills apiece, and Sara Marie Miller had 45 assists and 6 aces.  The regular season record stands at 26-8.

9/27/22
The Varsity Girls split their roadtrip, defeating Dawson County 27-25, 25-19, and falling to White County in three sets 25-14, 23-25, 11-15.  On the day Sara Marie Miller led the team with 41 assists while Avery Daum contributed 16 digs and 6 aces.

9/24/22
The Wolves lost to Peachtree Ridge in a tight 3-game match (17-25, 25-18, 15-17), but rebounded with a win over Duluth (25-9, 25-22) in the Gold Bracket of the Gwinnett County Championships.  Nadia Desbordes had 14 kills and MJ Reinhard had 3 aces.

9/22/22
The Varsity girls kicked off the Gwinnett County Championships with three wins at home over Parkview (25-21, 25-16), Norcross (25-17, 25-19), and Central Gwinnett (25-9, 25-6).  That pushes the season record to 22-6, and the winning streak to 18 matches!  In that streak, the Wolves have only dropped one game overall.  On the day, Mamie Pridgen served 5 aces, Avery Daum killed 18 points and dug 23 balls, Nadia Desbordes killed 17 points, Sara Marie Miller had 53 assists and 15 digs, and Lauren Van Wie had 22 digs.

The Wolves played their way into the Gold Bracket, hosted by Buford this Saturday.  Wish them luck as they pursue the crown in Gwinnett County.

9/20/22
The Varsity squad downed region opponents Gilmer and West Hall on the road by the scores 25-14, 25-10 and 25-12, 25-10 respectively.  Avery Daum killed 17 points, Lauren Van Wie dug 19 balls, and Sophia Shaffer served 6 aces.  The Wolves begin the Gwinnett County Championship tournament at this Thursday!

9/13/22
The Varsity Girls defeated region opponents Gilmer Co. (25-13, 25-7) and Lumpkin Co. (25-15, 25-19) in Yancey Gym on Alumni Night to continue their clean slate in the region.  Sophia Shaffer served 7 aces and dug 14 balls while Nadia Desbordes killed 6 points.

9/10/22
The Girls went a perfect 4-0 on Saturday defeating George Walton Academy, St. Francis, Loganville Christian, and Mt. Bethel which makes the Wolves 15-6 on the season.  Sara Marie Miller had 12 aces, 21 digs, and 79 assists while Avery Daum has 26 kills, 6 aces, and 31 digs.

9/8/22
Your Wolves defeated region opponents Lumpkin Co. (25-11, 25-22) and Pickens Co. (25-7, 25-5) on the road to push the region record to 4-0.  On the day, Avery Daum had 13 kills, 13 digs, and 5 aces while Kelsey Sykes had 10 digs, Nadia Desbordes had 8 kills, Lauren Van Wie had 19 sigs, and Sara Marie Miller had 39 assists.

9/1/22
The girls defeated Northview 25-15, 25-17, 25-23 to push their season record to 9-6.  On the day, Avery Daum had 11 kills and 11 digs, Parker Tidwell had 4 blocks, and Sophie Shaffer served 7 aces.

8/30/22
The Wolves took two region 7AAA matches yesterday on the road at White County in Cleveland Georgia.  The evening began with a two set win over the hosts (25-16, 25-17), and concluded with a two set win over West Hall (25-11, 25-10).  Sophia Shaffer served 6 aces while Morgan Perry killed 10 points and Sara Marie Miller contributed 13 digs and 30 assists.

8/24/22
Last Night was Sam Bradshaw Appreciation Night in Yancey Gym.  The Girls Volleyball program honored Sam ahead of his retirement in December, and thanked him for all the kindness and help he has given to the program over the years.  On the court, the Wolves went 1-1, losing to Pace in three sets, and defeating Woodward in a wild, come from behind fashion in the 3rd set (16-25, 25-21, 15-12).  On the stat sheet Nadia Desbordes had 15 kills, Kelsey Sykes had 13 kills, and Savannah Johnson had 11 kills.  The Wolves are 6-6 on the season so far.

8/20/22
Wesleyan hosted a play day on Saturday and swept their competition!  The Wolves downed Oconee Co. (25-22, 16-25, 15-10), Montain View (25-14, 25-19), Sonoraville (25-13, 25-23), and Forsyth Central (25-21, 25-20).  On the day, Sara Marie Miller had 6 aces and an incredible 112 assists, Lauren Van Wie had 43 digs, Kelsey Sykes led with 27 kills, and Parker Tidwell served 8 aces.

8/18/22
The Girls dropped a match to 7A Brookwood by the tight score of 24-26, 22-25, 22-25.  On the day, Morgan Perry led the team in Kills with 9, Nadia Desbordes contributed 8 kills of her own, and Sophia Shaffer had 12 digs.  The girls look forward to hosting a Play Day in Yancey Gym on Saturday!

8/14/22
The Varsity girls competed at the Elite Eight Invitational at Chestatee this weekend posting a 1-3 mark.  The Wolves defeated Forsyth Central 25-13, 25-14.

8/9/22

The Wolves opened the 2022 campaign against a strong Lovett team, ultimately falling in 4 sets (23-25, 16-25, 25-9, 14-25).  Sophia Shaffer and Parker Tidwell had 4 aces a piece, Morgan Perry and Kelsey Sykes each landed 8 kills, while Lauren Van Wie and Nadia Desbordes had 17 and 16 digs respectively.  

Those 17 digs were enough to elevate Senior Lauren Van Wie to the highest Dig count in program history.  She also eclipsed the 1500 dig mark and seeks to expand that record this season.  Congratulations, Lauren!
Back
