Baseball Crowned State Champs

5/24/22
The Ball guys took two from North Cobb Christian (3-0, 18-3) and walked away from Coolray Field on Tuesday night with the state's highest honor: Champions.  Overall, this represents the programs fifth title, and the first since 2016.

Carson Ballard served as the winning pitcher in game one after throwing 6 innings of four hit ball, and Cooper Blauser closed the door in the 7th to earn the save.  The offense all came in the second inning with two outs.  After a Reed Purcell single and Druw Jones walk, Bryce Hubbard took a first pitch fastball into the right-center gap for a two-run double, and Cooper Blauser followed with a one-hop triple to the fence in left center.

The Wolves dominated game two from the first frame, scoring five and never looking back. Reed Purcell earned the win on the mound in his role as a reliever.  The highlight defensively came on the second out of the final frame for North Cobb Christian on a long fly ball to the deepest part of the park in center.  Off the bat, the crowd groaned until they watched Druw Jones dropstep and track the ball ranging deep to his left, making an over the shoulder catch that stunned the crowd and set the stage for Reed Purcell to strike out the final batter, and usher in the pandemonium that accompanies a state championship.

The Wolves finish the season with a record of 35-5 (.875), a Region Crown, and the ultimate prize: the GHSA State Championship for Single-A-Private.
