Model Arab League gives high school students a taste of governing and diplomacy

Earlier this semester, a team of high school students and their sponsor Knoxie Roche, 11th grade girls chair, spent two days at Georgia State participating in the statewide Model Arab League. Schools are assigned Arab states to represent, and they spend two days working with other delegates to reach a resolution on a challenge or issue facing the region. This year, Wesleyan’s teams were assigned the countries of Lebanon and Djibouti.
“This exercise places students in a position where they have to work to understand the reality of a different country in a different region of the world,” said Mrs. Roche. “They must prep in advance getting to know the region, political realities, and other factors impacting both their assigned country and their neighbors. Then they spend two days thinking on their feet, learning how to compromise and make connections with other delegates.”

Wesleyan’s team that represented Lebanon received multiple recognitions that included:

Paul Baisier ‘22 - Outstanding Delegate for Political Affairs (Lebanon)
Jake Rodenhiser ’23 - Outstanding Delegate for Political Affairs (Lebanon)
Michael Soukup ’22 - Distinguished Delegate for Environmental Affairs (Lebanon)
