Mikayla Coombs ’17 named SEC women’s basketball scholar-athlete of the year

Congratulations to Wesleyan alumna Mikayla Coombs ’17, who was recently named the Southeastern Conference women’s basketball scholar-athlete of the year! Coombs is in her second year playing for the University of Georgia (UGA) after transferring from the University of Connecticut, and she is pursuing a master’s degree in sports management. While at Wesleyan, Coombs led the varsity girls basketball team to a state championship in 2017, as well as state runner-up finishes in 2014 and 2016.
Committed to excellence in the classroom and leadership on and off the court, Coombs earned a 3.82 GPA in her graduate program this fall, and she was the only student-athlete selected to the NCAA Competition Committee.

While there are plenty of team banners representing Coombs remarkable career at Wesleyan, she also earned many individual recognitions, including McDonald’s All-American, Naismith All-American, and Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year.

Congratulations, Mikayla, and good luck to the Dawgs in the postseason!
