World history students visit Michael C. Carlos Museum

Ninth grade world history students recently visited the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University. Students were guided through the African, East Asian, Greek, Roman, and Egyptian exhibits, and they enjoyed lunch in the Emory cafeteria. The field trip enhanced and clarified the Asian themes recently discussed in class. For example, the tour guide showed students prints of the Great Wave produced during the Edo period, which the class discussed a week earlier.
“The field trip was a great chance for our student to practice history using artwork as primary sources, and it was an opportunity to explore one of Atlanta’s wonderful resources,” explained Ellie Burns, faculty fellow teaching alongside Knoxie Roche.

After returning to campus, students wrote reflections about the artwork they found most interesting and what they learned from the experience. Plus, each student received a free pass to take a parent to the museum later this year. To learn more about the Michael C. Carlos Museum and how to visit, please check out their website.
