Chorus students participate in All State and Honor Chorus

Over part of winter break, middle and high school chorus students traveled to Athens for All State Chorus, an annual gathering for which students must audition and be selected to participate. All State Chorus is Georgia’s highest choral honor for middle and high school students. Zach Russell ’22, William Sabonis-Chafee ’22, and Emma Mack ’27 were invited to participate after auditioning this fall. The students spent last weekend rehearsing with top singers from across the state leading to a concert at the Athens Classic Center.
“We are very proud of Zach, William, and Emma for their hard work to earn a spot at All State and the hard work they poured into the first part of their winter break participating in All State,” said Meg Foster, director of fine arts. “Zach was a member of the 11th & 12th Grade Mixed Choir conducted by Dr. Lynda R. Hassler of Capital University, William sang with the Senior Tenor & Bass choir under the direction of Dr. Jonathan Palant of UT Dallas, and Emma was under the direction of Dr. Susan Brumfield of Texas Tech University in the Middle School Treble Choir.”

Zach Russell was also honored as a five-year All State participant, making All State Chorus every year he was eligible since the 7th grade. He is only the second Wesleyan student to receive this honor and only one of 43 in the state of Georgia.

Also, in Athens over winter break, several sixth-grade students participated in 6th Grade Statewide Honor Chorus. Olivia Justice ’28, Ariel Rajabi ’28, and Charlotte Stone ’28 were part of a 250-member choir that presented five pieces in two different languages at the Athens Classic Center. They rehearsed for over 10 hours and were under the direction of Jessica Napoles of the University of North Texas.

Congratulations to all of Wesleyan’s All State Chorus and 6th Grade Statewide Honor Chorus singers!
