Wesleyan honors departing staff member Jack Prettyman

Last semester, the Wesleyan faculty and staff said goodbye to a beloved member of our team. Jack Prettyman faithfully served Wesleyan School for five years as an invaluable member of our staff, supporting our school community in a wide variety of capacities. Always ready with a smile and a helping hand, Jack will be greatly missed.

While our community will miss seeing Jack on a daily basis, we are proud to share where Jack’s next chapter in life, and a wonderful organization founded by his parents, Joy and Bill Prettyman. The Prettyman family has created an organization named Thrive Community.  Thrive Community is a God-centered post-high school vocational community for adults with special needs.
“We provide entrepreneurial enterprises, and the Citizens - that's what we call our adults with special needs - work there and are empowered to become artisans, bakers, jewelry- makers, soap-makers, and more,” said Joy Prettyman. “We create an entrepreneurial environment that creates meaningful jobs that give our Citizens purpose and builds a sense of belonging.

“Our aim is to create respect for adults with special needs through their work and interactions with the world to change the way the world sees and experiences this population.  Our vision is to build a vocational and residential community where our Citizens will continue to learn, work, and live, being celebrated and empowered in a God-centered environment as they engage in meaningful work and service to others.”
