Swimming Round-Up

2/7/22
After an excellent weekend at Georgia Tech, the Girls Swim & Dive team finished 4th in the state in the A-AAA division, and the Boys finished 10th overall!  After an impressive showing at the dive session on Thursday morning which saw Emma Grace Anderson and Reagan Beaty finish 6th and 9th respectively, the swimmers took center stage.  Our swimmers swam very well against the best competition in the state of Georgia with all 6 relays scoring team points and three swimmers scoring individual points -- Mitchell Badciong finished 7th in the 50 Free, Henry Wasmuth finished 9th in the 200 Free, and Hattie Wasmuth finished 5th in the 200 Free and 7th in the 500 Free.  Coach Kevin Kadzis noted that "two top 10 finishes in a large, multi-team, multi-classification meet is an impressive feat any way you look at it. The fact we accomplished this with just 15 total members on our state team is a testament to each athlete doing their best for the good of the team." Congratulations to all state team swimmers and divers!

Our final home competition of the season saw a return to the tri meet format for the first time since January of 2020. The Wolves competed admirably against tough competition from Cambridge and Lovett. Our boys team came away with a victory while our girls team wasn’t too far off the pace in their meet. It was a great meet with some really good races and diving!  Individually, Vivian Hosier qualified for State in the 100 Free and Caroline Stewart made her cut in the 100 Breaststroke.  On the day, the following Wolves swam to a First Place finish: David Ohayon, Mitchell Badciong, Vivian Hosier, Reagan Beaty, Hattie Wasmuth, and Henry Wasmuth.

The team honored Seniors Sophie Villa, Kaitlyn McGrath, and Mitchell Badciong during the meet, and thanked them for all their hard work and dedication to the program.  This meet concludes the regular season as the team now turns their attention to both the Metro and State meets to be held over the next few weeks.

Traditionally, the first meet back after Christmas Break is a tough one from a mental perspective.  Although the Wolves came up short in the overall scores against Collins Hill, the meet was close from start to finish and a handful of swimmers posted season bests and personal records.  The Wet Wolves are excited to finish out the regular season this week with a home meet against Lovett and Cambridge on Thursday the 13th.  We will celebrate Senior Night for Mitchell Badciong, Kaitlyn McGrath, and Sophie Villa at the conclusion of the meet.

Last Friday, Hattie Wasmuth notched a top-ten performance in program history in the 200 Free with a time of 2:03.73.  First place finishes on the day came from JJ Neeb, Reagan Beaty, Mitchell Badciong, David Ohayon, Ray Homan, and Caroline Stewart.

12/17/21
