Boys Basketball Round-Up

2/15/22
The Varsity Boys finished their season on the road with a Region Tournament defeat to Mt. Vernon, 37-70.  Congratulations to Seniors Sam Cleveland, Tate Gilley, Grant Hill, Hunter Suits, and Hampton Huggins for their careers and contributions to Wesleyan Basketball.  Thank you to Coach Jeremy Oliver and his assistants Eric Damm and Ryan Hodges for their leadership and hard work this season.  Their record on the season was 8-17.
2/14/22
The Boys closed the regular season with senior night, honoring Sam Cleveland, Tate Gilley, Grant Hill, Hunter Suits, and Hampton Huggins on Friday before their game with Galloway.  The boys fell short, 69-44, and now turn their attention to the region tournament against Mt. Vernon on the road on Tuesday the 15th at 6pm.  Tickets to the game can be purchased by clicking here.

Varsity
The Boys lost a heartbreaker to HIES last week, 46-48 despite 19 points from Tate Gilley and 14 from Josh Kavel.  The Pack looks to rebound this week against Galloway as they host Senior Night for seniors Sam Cleveland, Tate Gilley, Grant Hill, and Hunter Suits.

1/24/22
Varsity
The Varsity team opened Region Play with a tough back-and-forth loss to Providence 58-69.  Josh Kavel led scorers with 22, while Tate Gilley added 16, and Thomas Chipman scored 13.  

8th Grade
Last Saturday the 8th Grade team fell to Marist 38-53, but saw strong performances from Troy Smith with 12 points, Triston McDonald with 7, and William Wright with 6 points.  They close their season this week with the Middle School Tournament!

1/19/22
Varsity
Last week the Varsity quad picked up a win against Mt. Paran 51-49.  Josh Kavel led scoring with 17 points, followed by Tate Gilley with 15, and Thomas Chipman with 11.  On Monday the team fought hard in a 64-59 defeat at the hands of St. Anne Pacelli.  Thomas Chipman led scorers with his season high of 23 points.

8th Grade
The 8th grade boys went 2-0 last week with wins over Mt. Paran (32-27) and Woodward Academy (45-39).  Against Mt. Paran, the game was highlighted by strong defense from Ryley Webb and Carter Hayes, and a handful of blocked shots from Brice Gillis.  Troy Smith led scoring with 11.  Against Woodward, Triston McDonald took 2 charges, and Brice Gillis led scoring with 14 points followed by Troy Smith with 12 and Jordan Green with 7.

7th Grade

On Saturday the 7th grade boys pulled out a win 34-33 after trailing most of the game to Woodward Academy. Ralph Sanders led all scorers with 12 points and contributed 8 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.
Andrew Meyer also played well on both ends of the floor, grabbing 5 rebounds and controlling the offense with only one turnover. Will Wazevich had a great defensive performance and came up with a key steal in the closing minutes.


1/10/22
Varsity
The Varsity squad fell to New Faith Prince Avenue last week, but notched a win on Saturday against Tattnall Square 43-35.  Against New Faith, Josh Kavel led scorers with 15, while Thomas Chipman added 13 returning from injury.  In the Tattnall game, Chipman added 15 more, while Derwin Hodge blocked 5 shots.  
7th Grade
The 7th grade boys defeated Holy Innocents 40-22 on Saturday. The Wolves had a great finish, with pressure defense and precise passing, scoring 15 points in the 4th quarter.  Leading in scoring and defense were Andrew Meyer and Beck Baxley.


12/6/21
Varsity

The Varsity squad took two this weekend, a 50-49 win over Mt. Paran which saw 19 points from Tate Gilley, 11 points from Josh Kavel, and 7 points from Sam Cleveland, who also drew three charges on the night.  On Saturday, the Wolves bested Elite Scholars 66-39 behind 16 points a piece from Tate Gilley and Josh Kavel, and 18 points from James McGriff.

8th Grade
The 8th grade boys played Greenforest Academy Friday at home winning 78-30.  11 Wolves scored.  Jordan Green led the way with 18, Brice Gillis had 14, and Troy Smith added 12.   On Saturday, the boys fell to St. Pius X by a final of 44-32.  Carter Hayes provided great leadership and led 6 scorers with 12 points.

7th Grade
The seventh grade defeated West Jackson Middle School 40-22 last Wednesday.  The scoring was balanced as ten different players contributed. Standouts included Will Wazevich who had 4 assists, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds, Kyle Baxley who had 4 rebounds and 4 steals, Ralph Sanders who had 5 rebounds and 3 blocked shots, and Ethan King who had 4 rebounds and 7 points.
