Alumni spotlight: Chad Hall ’04 uses Air Force background to coach NFL wide receivers

When Chad Hall ’04 graduated from Wesleyan, he matriculated to the Air Force Academy and played as both a running back wide receiver for the football team. Following a few years playing in the NFL, Hall is now in his fifth season coaching with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills.
Hall understands that “coaching is a lot more than just football,” and he credits both Wesleyan and his time at Air Force for laying some of that foundation.

“Some of the first things you learn at the Air Force Academy are integrity, service before self, and excellence in all that you do,” says Hall, and he strives to carry those values into his role as an NFL coach.

Reflecting on his time with the military, Hall says, “it was an honor to be able to [serve in the Air Force]. It’s just a higher purpose. It’s special to be able to serve your country. I pray for my buddies in the Air Force before every game during the national anthem.”

Hall’s faith and focus on relationship-building is part of why he is so beloved by his players. “He’s one of my favorite coaches I’ve ever had. He knows God, and he knows me,” says Stefon Diggs, Bills wide receiver and 2020 NFL first-team all-pro selection.

The Bills recently released a video titled “‘Best coach on the staff’ | How Chad Hall inspires the Bills wide receivers,” and we are so proud of the impact Hall is having in the NFL. Way to go!
