Middle and high school chorus concert wows audience

On Monday, Oct. 4, the middle and high school chorus took to the stage in Powell Theater to dazzle their families with their fall concert. Singers presented a variety of works ranging from songs about the fruits of the Spirit to excerpts from a Mozart Mass.
“I’m so proud of all of our singers for presenting a beautiful and professional concert. It’s been a long time since we gathered in Powell for a concert; it was a blessing to be on stage sharing the gift of music with a real live audience! It was also great to have members of our community - band, faculty, and musicians from around the city – appearing on the program as well,” shared Meg Foster, director of fine arts and middle school chorus teacher.

Brad Meyer, high school chorus teacher, agrees that being together as a chorus program was a welcome step towards normalcy. “I was blessed to be with everyone last night. As creative as we were last year, it was nice to just share a concert live with others. I appreciate all the preparation on the part of the students. Every group should be very proud,” he said.

The concert opened with three songs by the 5th grade chorus:
  • “The Fruits of the Spirit” by Terry Kirkland
  • “Teach Me Your Way” by Timothy Shaw featuring flutist Ellie Ahn
  • “Galop” by Ken Berg
The 7th and 8th grade chorus followed with three songs:
  • “A Festive Alleluia” by Mary Lynn Lightfoot
  • “Hashivenu” a traditional Israeli folk song arranged by Michael Ryan
  • “Fly Away Home” by Pinkzebra featuring soloists Lexi Hedlund and John Copeland
The high school Chamber Singers concluded the concert with five songs:
  • “Mass in C Major K. 220 ‘Sparrow Mass’” by Mozart with soloists Nadia Thieriot, Whitney Martinez, Chad Simmons, and Zach Russell, and instrumentalists Christian Burns, Caleb Walton, Gavin Burns, Rebecca Huon, Erme Dionne Davis, and Bill Scruggs
  • “Hard Times Come Again No More” by Stephen Foster, arranged by Moore
  • “La Lluvia” by Stephen Hatfield
  • “City Called Heaven” arranged by Josephine Poelinitz with soloists Tori Hedlund and Rylie Jones and featuring the 7th and 8th grade chorus
  • “I Will Be A Child of Peace” arranged by Elain Hagenberg
