Kayla Kim named Morehead-Cain nomination

The College Advising Office is pleased to announce that Kayla Kim has been nominated by a faculty committee as Wesleyan’s nominee for the Morehead-Cain Scholarship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Morehead-Cain Foundation seeks competitive applicants, who demonstrate moral force of character, academic scholarship, physical vigor, and leadership. The scholarship process is extremely selective; only three percent of nominees are awarded the scholarship each year.
In addition to her excellent academic record, Kim is a member of the math team, history bowl team, science team, and is the founder and president of the debate club. Kim has been recognized as the President of the National Art Honor Society. In addition, Kim serves as a Wesleyan Ambassador for admissions tours and helps lead SALSA (Students Advocating for Life without Substance Abuse) programming for lower and middle school students. Kim is a co-founder for TheVirusWarriors, a community-based organization that seeks to educate students about public health. She competes on a national level in archery and has won five gold medals. Finally, art is a significant passion for Kim; she has been recognized with two Golden Medals for her works through the Scholastic Competition in painting. Through several internships at local hospitals and a traffic clinic, along with her service in the community teaching English and participating at food drives, Kim exemplifies the JOY motto. Kim began attending Wesleyan School in eighth grade after attending Lanier Middle School in Duluth, Georgia.

If awarded, the Morehead Cain scholarship covers the full cost of attendance at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill along with unique learning and travel opportunities. Our nominee has completed a rigorous application process including writing essays, securing recommendations, and if invited to be semi-finalists, will interview with the scholarship selection committees.

Congratulations to the Kim family for this tremendous honor, and best wishes to Kayla in her quest to become a Morehead-Cain scholar!
