Alumni Spotlight: Grant Frerking ‘17 featured on the SEC Network

Wesleyan alumni and University of Tennessee student-athlete Grant Frerking ’17 was recently interviewed by Paul Finebaum on the SEC Network. During the interview, Frerking shares the impact of the NCAA’s new “name, image, and likeness” rules and his role in educating his teammates and young recruits.
As a sophomore at Wesleyan and with a goal of enhancing customer service in the pine straw industry, Frerking founded what is now a multi-million dollar company, Metro Straw. For the past few years, Frerking has juggled the demands of being a student-athlete and a business leader. Now he is using his experience and knowledge to guide his teammates as they consider their own money-making opportunities resulting from the new “name, image, and likeness” rules.

During his recent interview on the SEC Network, Frerking credits Wesleyan as an “institution that taught [him] entrepreneurship, business, and professional skills” that allow him to be successful today. Frerking earned a bachelor's degree in supply chain management from the Haslam College of Business, and he is now pursuing a master’s degree.
