After Care Provides Relief After the School Day

With the busyness of the everyday schedule, one reprieve for Wesleyan parents and students during this COVID season has been the availability of After Care for lower and middle school students. After Care is offered every day from the end of the school day until 6 p.m.

To adapt to the COVID protocols necessary to maintain a safe environment, the program made several changes.

“Due to COVID-19 we hired several new staff which allows us to spread out each grade into several new locations,” said After School Manager Christy Pierce. “We have continued to allow the students to have a study hall, playground time, gym time, and different daily activities. We have a rotating schedule that allows students time in each activity, and also allows us the ability to keep the grades and groups separate.”

The relief of an option for late pick-up after school has been felt by parents. “Many parents have expressed sincere appreciation for our program. Some parents are still working from home while others are back in the office. Either way, they are grateful to have this service especially when so many others do not” said Pierce. “Our After Care mission has remained the same in that we want to provide a service that is convenient for the parent and enjoyable for the student.”
