Middle School Students Learn About Executive Function Skills

Last week during flex period, the Academic Resource Center (ARC) team met with all middle school students to discuss how students learn differently and the importance of executive function skills for success in life and learning. Executive functions are a set of mental skills needed to learn, work, and manage daily life.

Developing these skills begins in infancy and continues through early adulthood. Struggles may occur if skills are not well-developed to meet the demands of school and life. To support all middle school students and the development of their executive function skills, the ARC team will help students identify their executive strengths and challenges and teach skills for use in their personal and school lives. During pack time, students learned about executive function skills in greater detail and completed a personal skill inventory.
