Wesleyan Announces Creation of Parent Diversity Council

Wesleyan School is happy to announce the creation of the Wesleyan Parent Diversity Council. This amazing group of parents will work with the director of diversity to speak into and support diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts at Wesleyan School.
The parent group will:

  • Offer feedback that can inform diversity initiatives and programming at Wesleyan School.
  • Discuss topics that are relevant to a healthy experience for all students at Wesleyan.
  • Work in partnership with the director of diversity and the school to continue to move us forward.
  • Support the school to develop strong home/school partnerships.
  • Capture the unique and varied skills, interests, knowledge, and experience that parents can offer.

In addition to the Parent Diversity Council, Joseph Koch, high school principal, and Dr. Isiah Hill, high school diversity coordinator, will be working alongside Mondria Davenport and Dionne Simmons, who will serve in new roles as diversity parent representatives for the high school. These women will support, engage, and communicate with Mr. Koch and Dr. Hill on matters relative to diversity and equity that are specific to the high school community.

Mondria Davenport, mother of Sheridan Davenport '16 and Siobhan Davenport '21 and wife to Stanley Davenport, varsity football running back community coach, has been an involved parent at Wesleyan for 9 years. She has served the Wesleyan community as a substitute teacher, a member of the Diversity Council, the Development Committee, a Wesleyan Gala volunteer, a facilitator of the "Be the Bridge" bible study for parents and alumni, and developed Wesleyan's first Black History Month program.

Dionne Simmons and her husband Patrick live in Stone Mountain. The family has been a part of the Wesleyan community since 2013. Her oldest son, Donovan, is a recent graduate in the Wesleyan Class of 2020 and currently attends Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her youngest son Jeremiah is a junior at Wesleyan. Both children started Wesleyan in 6th grade. Dionne is a parent of students who were, and are, active in Wesleyan’s afterschool activities: marching band, wrestling, cross country, track, and theater.

We are grateful for the support and voices of these and all of our parents who are committed to working together to make Wesleyan a community where all students can grow, thrive, and feel a sense of belonging.
