Middle School Honors Day

Dear Middle School Students, Parents, and Faculty,

Middle School Honors Day historically has been our time to recognize middle school students and faculty who have gone above and beyond in support of their peers, faculty, and the Wesleyan community. Although we could not gather to celebrate in person this year, we are excited to unveil this year’s award recipients as voted on by the middle school faculty. Award recipients are listed below in the order they would have been presented at the traditional ceremony.
  • Faculty Stewardship Award - The Wesleyan Faculty Stewardship Awards for Service above Self were established in 1999 to annually recognize a member of the faculty or staff in each division for extraordinary service to the school. This award is meant to go to a staff member who embodies the priorities represented in the JOY banners displayed throughout the campus. Included on the award is the scripture from Matthew 23:11-12, “The greatest among you will be your servant. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” The 2020 Middle School Faculty Stewardship Award is presented to Sean Nestor by Joseph Antonio.
  • Highest Academic Average Awards - As a Christian school of academic excellence, we do our best to take every opportunity during the school year to recognize and celebrate the various academic achievements of our students. However, there is a group of students who have distinguished themselves above and beyond their peers that warrant special recognition. The recipients of the Highest Academic Average award have combined a number of significant character traits to claim one of the highest academic honors we award to a middle school student. These students have been blessed with tremendous intellect, committed themselves to their academic endeavors, and have consistently performed at a high level in and out of the classroom. Their dedication and tireless effort have allowed them to attain the highest average in their class for the entire school year. Each grade level is represented by one male and one female student for this award, and the award is presented by each student’s grade chair.
  • 5th Grade Highest Academic Average Award
  • 8th Grade Highest Academic Average Award
  • Framed Art Presentation - Each year our visual arts teachers select one piece of artwork to be framed and displayed in Wesleyan’s Fine Arts building until the student graduates from Wesleyan. This year’s framed art selection is an impressionist oil painting by Elizabeth Tian, and it is presented by Kristie Onorato.
  • Sportsmanship/Athletic Ability Awards - The Sportsmanship/Athletic Ability Awards are given each year to a male and female student who have contributed greatly to multiple Wesleyan sports. These athletes are nominated by and voted on by our coaches based on their consistent athletic ability and sportsmanship. The 2020 Female Sportsmanship/Athletic Ability Award is presented to Audrey Doss by Glenn Archer. The 2020 Male Sportsmanship/Athletic Ability Award is presented to Hayden Ausherman by Sean Nestor.
  • Fine Arts Awards - The Fine Arts Awards are given each year to a male and female student who have distinguished themselves in the arts. These students are nominated by and voted on by our Fine Arts Department. The 2020 Female Fine Arts Award is presented to Hannah Ferdon by Stephanie Simmons. The 2020 Male Fine Arts Award is presented to Dane Scott by Ruthie Colegrove.
  • Dean’s Awards - The Dean’s Award is presented each year to a male and female student who impact the Wesleyan community in a positive and significant fashion. This award recognizes a student’s character, citizenship, and willingness to serve others. Each recipient clearly lives out the J.O.Y. motto of Wesleyan, placing Jesus and Others above Self. The 2020 Female Dean’s Award is presented to Kailey Zavitz by Rich Billing. The 2020 Male Dean’s Award is presented to Jackson Sullenberger by Rich Billing.

  • Jack Michael Menefee Leadership Award - This award is given to one student who has displayed outstanding leadership in many areas of the Wesleyan community. The 2020 Jack Michael Menefee Leadership Award is presented to Kate Stolle by Chris Cleveland.
