Middle and High School Iron Wolf Awards

This week we want to pause and recognize a number of students who have contributed to our Wesleyan community in a variety of ways.

Today, we honor and celebrate our students who have earned the distinction of Iron Wolf. The Iron Wolf Award is given annually to students who participate in three seasons of after school arts and/or athletics activities. Participation in these activities is an absolutely critical part of the Wesleyan School model. In order to provide the range of opportunities that schools two or three times our size offer, we must rely on students who are willing to be involved in the life of the school beyond the classroom and who are willing to try new things and be stretched outside of their comfort zone. In addition to our extra-curricular model, this type of broad participation is beneficial both developmentally and experientially. This is a great time in life for students to try new things, to resist the cultural push to specialize in one area, and to embrace the positives of being well-rounded. When students and families are on our campus for practices, events, concerts, games, and competitions, it fosters a strong sense of community, which is one of the great strengths of our school. As students get older, being an Iron Wolf becomes more challenging as course loads become more difficult, extended seasons begin to overlap, and life simply becomes more complicated.

We want to thank these students and their families for their steadfast commitment and dedication to being involved in the life of the school.
