Wesleyan Celebrates John Wesley Day
John Wesley Day is a day set apart at Wesleyan to express gratitude for the sacrificial giving of both the founders of the school and those who sustain the school through their continued generosity. Historically, it was on the 18th day of the school year reflect the 18 days of 180 school days that are possible due to the generosity of donors who provide roughly 10% of the operating budget through gifts to the school. We currently celebrate John Wesley Day in November, since it is a month where our nation and our families focus on thankfulness and gratitude. Gratitude is both the proper response to giving and motivation for a life of service. Current students are reminded that what they have at Wesleyan is a gift from God through the generosity of others.
Today, we celebrated our 9th annual John Wesley Day by having alumni, Brittany Stevens ’13 and Polly Howell ’13, lead worship and Savannah Kimberlin ’12 spoke in both our middle and high school chapels. A luncheon was hosted for a select group of Wesleyan donors in Brammer-Wilkinson Room and senior, Javy Martinez, spoke about the impact that Wesleyan faculty and coaches have made on his life.
