Sixth Grade Students Visit JA Biztown

February 5th, 2019

Over the past two and a half weeks, sixth grade students have had the opportunity to focus on business units such as community/citizenship, financial literacy, work readiness and business management in their P.E. classes. After focusing on these business-oriented subjects, the students were able to take a field trip to “JA Biztown” in JA Discovery Center Gwinnett on February 4th.

“JA BizTown provides an opportunity for students to interact within a simulated economy and take on the role of citizen, consumer, and employee. During the visit to JA BizTown, students work in teams of six to eight to manage their assigned business with the goal of generating a profit. Students also earn paychecks that they can use to purchase products and services from the different stores to practice basic personal financial management.”

Says middle school P.E. teacher Justin Krueger, “We feel like this experience helps our students to obtain some of the knowledge and skills that will be necessary to succeed in the real-world. It is also closely in line with our mission and preparing our students to be good stewards in our changing world.”
