Guest Speakers Present to Middle School on Gaming and God's Design for our Lives

October 30, 2018

On October 30th the Middle School boys and girls were treated to special presentations during their breaks from CTP testing.

For the boys, Ryan Tuttle, the founder and COO of a tech company that builds mobile apps and video games, spoke about the good and bad that comes along with the game Fortnite. Tuttle dove into how the game designers and audio engineers will design specific features within the game to make it more enticing to keep playing. For instance, sounds within the game can stimulate the brain and make a gamer more likely to spend money within Fortnite, which is on pace to generate revenue of 2 billion dollars this year.

Tuttle also spoke about positives that can come from community building while playing the game in the same room as others, as well as the negative effects that can come from online bullying. Says Tuttle, “Just because someone doesn’t know who you are in the game, doesn’t mean that Jesus doesn't know who you are. The things that you say in the game still represent yourself to Him.”

Faculty members Brittany Stevens and Jamie Hemken spoke to the girls about celebrating their uniqueness while honoring God’s design for their lives.

Brittany Stevens sang with the middle school girls about how we have a firm foundation in the Lord alone and how we can put our trust in him.

Jamie Hemken provided insight in how we are provided seats at the table with the Lord and how we do not have to earn our acceptance from people because we are already loved by God. Hemken and Stevens shared how we should live each day knowing that we wake up each day already loved by our creator.
