Olivia Curran publishes Cookbook to Earn the Girl Scouts of America Gold Award

September 24, 2018

Wesleyan senior Olivia Curran, as part of her work to earn the Girl Scouts of America Gold Award, recently published a cookbook of healthy, inexpensive recipes made with ingredients readily available in food pantries. “Good Food For All” was inspired by Olivia’s volunteer work at local food pantries where she learned the struggles that food insecure families face when they consume a high volume of canned and packaged foods that tend to be high in sodium.

Olivia volunteered with Duluth Co-Op and Carepointe Ministries and saw first hand how hard it is for food pantries to supply fresh, vitamin-rich produce to supplement these families’ meals. She factored this into her recipes and she recently printed 250 cookbooks and distributed them to local food pantries. On Tuesday, September 20, Olivia hosted a dinner on campus where she served recipes from her cookbook, shared with the audience the details of her project, and collected donations to print more cookbooks.

The Gold Award is the highest achievement within the Girls Scouts of America. To be eligible, Senior Girl Scouts must complete two extensive projects that typically take one to two years to complete. Congratulations, Olivia, on earning your Gold Award, and more importantly we are so proud of how you are serving your community!
