September 18, 2018
The College Advising Office is pleased to announce that Jennifer Nolan and George Doane have been nominated by a faculty committee as Wesleyan’s nominees for prestigious scholarships at the University of Virginia and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill respectively.

Jennifer Nolan is Wesleyan’s nominee for the Jefferson Scholarship at the University of Virginia. The Jefferson Foundation seeks high school seniors who possess exceptional ability in leadership and scholarship and who show promise of making a significant contribution to the University of Virginia community as students and to society at large as graduates. In addition to her strong academic record, Jennifer is a four-year member of the softball and track and field teams,  a peer leader, a member of both the math bowl and mock trial teams, and a volunteer for Team Omicron.

George Doane is Wesleyan’s nominee for the Morehead-Cain Scholarship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Morehead-Cain Foundation seeks competitive applicants who demonstrate moral force of character, academic scholarship, physical vigor, and leadership. In addition to his numerous academic honors, George is a four-year member of the soccer and cross country teams, a two-year member of the diving team, a peer leader, and a member of the math bowl team.

If awarded, both scholarships carry full rides to their institutions along with unique learning and travel opportunities. Jennifer and George will now complete a rigorous application process including writing essays, securing recommendations, and potentially interviewing with the scholarship selection committees. Please congratulate Jennifer, George, and their families for these tremendous honors and wish them well in their quest to become finalists!
