ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Academic Support Services at Wesleyan School exist to equip students, faculty, and families with skills and strategies to promote independent learning while successfully meeting the demands of Wesleyan’s academic standard of excellence.

Academic Resource Center

Wesleyan’s Academic Resource Center provides an optional, tiered program of service based on recommendation by the administration and offers services for a supplemental tuition.

With academic independence as the goal, the Academic Resource Center at Wesleyan School serves middle and high school students with an average to above-average intellectual ability and mild to moderate language processing and/or attention challenges. The ARC is executive skills-based, and helps students with
  • Self-Awareness and Self-Advocacy
  • Organization
  • Time Management
  • Study Strategies
  • Planning
The Academic Resource Center is not equipped to serve students with significant social, emotional, or behavioral challenges.

  • Middle School ARC Offerings

    The middle school offers the following services to students in grades 5-8 with current psycho-educational testing and an active learning profile:

    Strategies Class 

    • Maximum of eight students per grade
    • Meets during the school day in class rotation
    • Students enroll for the entire academic year
    • $3,750 per semester

    One-On-One Support
    • Meets one or two times per class rotation, depending on need
    • Students enroll for a minimum of ten sessions
    • $90 per session
  • High School ARC Offerings

    Strategies Class (Grade 9)
    • Requires current psycho-educational testing and an active learning profile
    • Maximum of eight students per group
    • Meets during the school day in class rotation
    • Students enroll for the entire academic year
    • $3,750 per semester

    Strategies Workshop Series (Grade 9)
    • Maximum of eight students per group
    • Meets two times per week for seven weeks during lunch and flex period
    • Student may take one series (14 sessions) per year 
    • $560 per series 

    Guided Study Hall (Grades 10-12)
    • Maximum of eight students per group
    • Students receive oversight from a learning specialist to create a plan for the period
    • Meets during the school day in class rotation
    • Enrollment is by semester
    • $875 per semester

  • Lower School Support

    As early identification and remediation are key to future academic success, students may benefit from resources that are provided on campus by both internal resources and external practitioners approved by the school.

    *External Resources are offered to lower school students for a supplemental fee through the counseling department.

  • Middle School Support

    Wesleyan's academic program is designed to support all learners, regardless of learning profile. All students in middle school benefit from the following features of Wesleyan's program:

    Grade Chairs
    Each grade level, fifth through twelfth, has a boys and girls grade chair to support students and parents throughout each school year. Grade chairs provide the necessary touch point to assist students in achieving success in all areas of school life.

    Class Specific Office Hours
    All faculty offer designated office hours outside of the normal school day to provide additional review and support on class-specific subject matter as needed.

    ARC Office Hours
    ARC learning specialists are available Tuesday and Thursday mornings before school to assist students recommended by grade chairs and counselors. The middle school learning specialists provide support with a specific executive or study skill to help students achieve their best in core classes.

    Math and Writing Labs
    Additionally, all middle school students have access to free subject-specific support in the math and writing labs staffed after school by faculty in the math and English departments, respectively.

    Study Skill and Executive Function Skill Lessons
    The Academic Resource Center team teaches lessons to all middle school students. Lessons will be scheduled periodically during flex time throughout the year.

Faculty Professional Development

In addition to directly supporting students, the academic support services team works to equip all faculty members with the latest research and strategies to support all learners in their classrooms, including those with learning differences.
