Russell Matherly ‘12, Jessica Roberts ‘17, and Noah Young ‘17 are inducted into the Fine Arts Circle of Honor

On Thursday, April 3, the Wesleyan community gathered to celebrate the induction of Russell Matherly ‘12, Jessica Roberts ‘17, and Noah Young ‘17 into the Fine Arts Circle of Honor.

As a student at Wesleyan, Matherly participated in theatre and served in the chapel band. He also served as a peer leader.

“This place has made me,” reflects Matherly as he shares what Wesleyan means to him. “I really can’t say that anywhere has been more formative for me than the stage in Austin Chapel.”

As a student, Roberts participated in Marching Wolves where she served as drum major in 2016 and 2017, the symphonic band, chapel band, and district band. She participated in theatre, winter guard and drumline, and high school chorus. Roberts was also on the JV golf team and attended multiple Wesleyan mission trips.

“I was able to grow and develop as a leader and was given space to try, fail, learn from my mistakes without judgement. These are lessons and opportunities I didn’t value as much at the time, but have made a large impact on me now as an adult, both professionally and personally,” remembers Roberts.

During his time at Wesleyan, Young was involved in marching band, winter drumline, theatre, symphonic band, wrestling, lacrosse, and he performed as a competitive bagpiper.

“My time in the arts at Wesleyan was full of incredible experiences—marching band competitions, Friday night performances, and even helping to revitalize the winter drumline my senior year after it had been out of commission for a while. But beyond the performances and competitions, what stuck with me most were the people,” shares Young. “More than just teaching me about music and leadership, they showed me the importance of growing in my relationship with Jesus Christ. Through their guidance, I learned that my gifts were meant for more than just performance—they were meant to be used as a form of worship and a way to glorify Him. That is a lesson I carry with me.”

Congrats to Russell, Jessica, and Noah!
